WIAW and the epically bad day

Have you ever had a bad day?

Cause you had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don’t know
You tell me don’t lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don’t lie
You’re coming back down and you really don’t mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Wah wah wah. That was me yesterday. Don’t worry – it has a happy ending =)

Here is how my day started:

That was only a very small part of it… I was in a hurry (do you notice how stories like this always seem to start with I was in a hurry?!) and grabbed my casserole dish out of the cupboard and apparently the lid was sitting on it precariously and it tipped right over and fell… and broke. into. a. million. pieces. I kid you not. Ugh. My favourite and only glass casserole dish. At least the dish itself is still fine, it was just the lid.

I thought I would cheer myself up by having my favourite breakfast:

And well, it did cheer me up a bit ;p

I did not feeling going for a work out, but dragged my butt to the gym and had a good workout. Then I headed over to a friends house for a smoothie making and tasting get together. My friend had this idea of having a get together where everyone brings their blender and we all make smoothies together. She asked me to go over the basics and do a demonstration for everyone. It was really fun! I got to show them how easy it is to incorporate greens into smoothies while keeping a great taste! I talked about non-dairy alternatives like almond and coconut milk and alternative sweeteners like dates. It was a big hit!

I came home and knew I was going for a big bike ride, so I wanted a snack since the smoothies were kind of my lunch:

I love collard wraps. These just have a bit of hummus as a base, sautéed mushrooms and fresh onion, cucumber, carrot & pepper.

I didn’t really feel like going out, but was meeting a friend for tea at Starbucks, so I dragged my butt out. Again, I’m glad I went, I had a nice talk.

Despite the day being relatively good overall, I was in a crabby mood. These past few days, I feel like I’m in a bit of a funk for some reason. I’ve been eating junkier and overeating a bit, I’ve been moody and tired. Not sure what it is, but hoping to snap out of it soon! Again, trying to cheer myself up, I made a fun supper:
Found the recipe from Rachel over at Almonds & Avocados. Check out the recipe here. It was our first time trying out kabocha squash. I had been meaning to for ages, but never got around to it. Love, love, love this recipe. I highly recommend it.

I had not quite finished eating when my I felt a weird crunch in my mouth. You can guess what happened next I’m sure. There was glass in my dish. I cut my gums… it’s actually still pretty tender today. And I have no clue how it even happened. My husband and I spent a very long time cleaning up the glass to ensure there was none anywhere. I can’t even begin to think how it got into the food. Anyway, that put me in a “I feel bad for myself” kind of mood. Poor me. My husband went to take out the garbage and came back with the mail. And look what I got:

Fun!

It was a care package from my good friend Sarina. She had sent it to me as she new I’d be sad my family left (probably part of the reason I’ve been in a funk), and it was just what I needed. And it made me realise my day hadn’t really been all that bad and I really don’t have much to complain about at all.

Hope you’re all having a great week. It’s time to get my butt back on track with this Healthy Eating Challenge!

  1. Those berries look great, love having them at breakfast! I hate bad days and I had a similar one a few weeks ago when I was going through the fridge and a big bottle of glass juice fell on the floor. It took ages to clean it all up!!

  2. Awww Kimmy… Not a good day :( You’re right though.. these stories always begin with “I was in a hurry and….”
I’m so happy the day ended on a good note though, how amazing is Sarina! :) You must really miss each other.

  3. Um yep, let this be a lesson to not be in a hurry… although this is easier said than done ;p
Yes, Sarina is awesome, I miss her dearly, but we keep in touch regularly =)

    1. Haha… I’m not normally clumsy, but lately, man oh man. But that kabocha squash recipe of yours was so tasty – that definitely helped make the day way better =)
      Thanks Rachel!

  4. Yikes! I hope that your mouth is healing! We just broke a picture frame, when I saw “we” it was really my youngest who threw a ball, which hit a frame on the mantel, which fell and hurt my older soon and then broke into a bizillion pieces. Phew! What an awesome care package to brighten your day!! :) xo
