WIAW #43 (the sickie edition)

I woke up with a throat so sore this morning, I almost cried. It was extremely painful, I could hardly bear it :(

It got a little better as the morning wore on, and I managed to make myself a nice, cool green smoothie:

Somehow, when I get sick, my appetite does not seem to diminish despite the lower energy expenditure… so I had my mid-morning snack:

By lunch though, my sore throat was a mild annoyance at best. The quick recovery puzzled me and I thought I would take it easy and make some of my chickpea noodle soup:

It did make me feel a little better.

It’s funny as this was my first “relaxing” day in awhile. It’s a day where I have absolutely no plans (aside from a couple of errands that can be put off and going to the gym) and I got to not stress about not getting things done. My wonderful hubby caught up on the laundry for me this weekend and I cleaned the entire house yesterday and had no volunteer commitments today. I pre-emptively called in sick to the volunteer shifts I have tomorrow in case I wake up feeling like crap and I don’t want to infect others. But I kind of wonder if the reason I feel almost completely better after just one day of taking it easy is because I have no stress of worrying about work not getting done. I remember when I used to work full time, if I ever woke up with a sore throat, I would trudge on to work and be super stressed about things not getting done and freak out… well, a lot. And I would push myself too much and get sicker. I think the key to wellness and quick recovery is the relax and take it easy =)

Anyway, convenience certainly doesn’t hurt things either. And I let Terry take the car to work today so I wouldn’t be tempted to go out and run errands. But we were out of my favourite soup. So he just had it delivered to me!

Have any of you tried Google Shopping Express? It’s pretty awesome. You can sign up for a membership (it’s an inexpensive monthly charge) and on those days when you just don’t have time to run out, but you are desperately missing something, you can get it delivered to your home. I think it’s currently only in select cities, but watch out for it!

Mmmm warm, comforting soup.

I got caught up on some of my favourite shows (Glee & The Vampire Diaries – any other fans out there?), finished some fluff reading, had a nice, hot, luxurious bath, did some volunteer work from home and am now catching up on some much needed blog reading. Ooh and I watched the movie The Impossible. Have you seen it? It is a really good, inspirational movie about overcoming all odds.

Well, hopefully I continue to feel better. I hope you are all having a great week so far. Stay healthy!

Thank to Jenn over at Peas & Crayons for hosting this What I Ate Wednesday.

  1. I hate when that happens. I always seem to be sick during the summer and Christmas. Thats no fun at all. Hope you feel better Kim!

I am not sure google could come up with anything else. Groceries to your door. I’m jealous. Thanks for the movie recommendation. I am going to rent it ASAP!

    Hope to see you soon!

    1. Oh dear… you are missing out ;p It’s pretty tasty. It’s definitely not one of their healthier soups (it’s loaded with salt…), but sometimes when you’re sick – it’s nice to have something like that.
      Thanks Sarina.
