Snacky-Balls (the quick & easy snack!)

You may be able to tell from the name of my blog that I like cute sounding things. I’m kind of a dork as I enjoy mixing words to create fun, new expressions like rock-tastic, fantarific and rawesome. And for those of you that know me personally, you may not be completely shocked to know I use the word snacky in replacement of the word snack. Yup. Dork. My husband thinks it’s cute – that’s all that really matters right? haha

Something else I really like is a super quick, easy and portable snack.

When my husband was first office a job here in Northern California, they wanted him to move as soon as possible… which for me was not an option half way through my school year. And we needed some time to get our things together before leaving everyone and everything we knew behind. He ended up leaving at the end of April and I stayed in Ontario for the months of May and June all by my lonesome. I had full time school and a part time job and volunteered and was always trying to think of something to have while on the run. Our house also closed at the end of May and I needed to send all of our things up to California so my husband could start setting up our new apartment. Goodbye food processor. Aurevoir dehydrator.

These cute little guys only require some measuring cups, a spoon for mixing and a bowl.

Snacky-Balls

1 cup of puffed millet (I’ve tried with puffed quino and this works, I’m sure rice puffs woud work equally well)

1/2 cup nutbutter (the ones pictured above I used almond, but they taste even better with cashew butter)

1/2 cup shredded, unsweetened coconut

1/4 cup hemp seeds

1/4 cup ground flax seeds

1/4 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup carob or raw cacao powder (I’ve also tried this with lacuma, but cut it down in half and it was pretty tasty)

Combine everything and form into little balls and refrigerate until ready to serve. I recommend keeping them refrigerated as they get melty otherwise.

I’ve also tried this with oats & honey t0 keep it raw and it works too. Whatever you have on hand, the possibilities are endless!

As a note, I usually half the amount of maple syrup as I generally try to use less sweetener, but most people I know prefer the full 1/4 cup of maple syrup. If you cut the sweetener down, add a bit of water to make up for having less liquid.

These are especially great as a post-workout snack.
