That’s right – it’s a naughty smoothie. But oh so delicious! And decadent. And totally hits the spot after a tough work out. And… isn’t really all that naughty ;p
I promised you a smoothie recipe with a fun and secret ingredient and here it is: no-tella!
When I recently had my 3-year old niece up for a visit, I thought it would be super fun to make a healthier spin on an old favourite – nutella. Well, she actually wasn’t all that crazy about it, but everyone else sure loved it! We put it on rice cakes, and dipped strawberries in it… oh yummy. Then I had a particularly intense bootcamp one morning and came home needing energy to get me through a long day and thought I would try incorporating it into my smoothie. Holy crap – best idea ever!!!
To make the no-tella spread, I just put some hazelnuts in a food processor and kept it running until the nuts broke down and started forming into a nice, smooth nut butter. I then added some cacao powder, melted coconut oil and maple syrup. I kind of just fiddled around until it turned out, but I think you could try using 1 cup of hazelnuts, 1/3 cup cacao, 2 tbsp of coconut oil and 2-4 tbsp of maple syrup or agave. I would normally just put 1-2 tsp of maple syrup, but my family enjoys things a little sweeter than Terry and I do. And it was a nice treat =)
Naugthy No-tella Smoothie
1 large handful of chard leaves
1 banana (frozen if you’d like to make it extra creamy)
1/2 cup of mixed berries (strawberry tastes best, but whatever you have on hand will work)
1 tbsp maca powder
1 tbsp hemp seeds
1 generous tbsp no-tella
3/4 cup nutmylk (sunflower is pictured)
1/4 cup coconut water
Combine all of the ingredients and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
