Mid-Week Munchies and Chocolate is back!

Good morning! I hope you had a fantastic weekend =) I did. There was chocolate involved. I had recently taken a chocolate break after realising I was eating it a little too much. I was hoping to make it until Halloween with no chocolate, but I realised if I waited until then, the day may end up with waaaay too much chocolate ;p So I had a bit over the weekend and feel pretty good. I don’t feel compelled to eat more. My experiment was a success! I look forward to gradually adding it back into my diet, mostly by making chocolate myself or adding cocao powder to oats & smoothies instead of getting back in the habit of buying store-bought chocolate bars. I just need to be mindful that taking breaks doesn’t lead to restricting and find a happy balance with food. Who would have thought it could be so tough?

In other news, I found some new fun things to try at the grocery store:

So, I have had The Better Bean Company beans before, but not this flavour yet. I like their beans because they are a quick & easy thing to pick up for quick lunches. They are healthy and full of protein. All of their flavours are gluten-free, soy-free, vegan, nut-free and non-GMO. With the particular flavour I picked up, you get 9 whole grams of protein for 3/4 cup, it’s low in fat and high in fiber. It is a little high in salt though, but if you’re like me and don’t eat a ton of packaged foods – it’s not so bad.

I normally buy So Delicious Coconut Yogurt, but this Coconut Grove brand was on sale. I don’t eat a lot of yogurt, so this tub will last quite awhile. So far, I have just tried adding it to a smoothie, so I didn’t really get to taste it yet, but I think I’ll like it. Have you tried this kind of yogurt?

And lastly, jackfruit! I’ve had it a few times  from food trucks and quite like it, but haven’t tried buying it and preparing it myself. Well, I guess I don’t have much preparing as this already is bbq-flavoured. I bought this just for a bit of variety. I’m not sure how often I’ll buy it, I do like that it is gluten-free and soy-free, but it’s very low in protein and doesn’t have a whole lot of nutritional punch to it.

Are you gearing up for Halloween??? I’m so excited! I will have a halloween-ish recipe to share Wednesday (it’s a bit of a stretch… but it works haha ;p) and I’ll have a roundup too so you can get ready for the weekend. Yay Halloween!

  1. What wonderful finds! I really wish I could find that Jackfruit around here! I have heard so much about it! Also…that cultured coconut milk – is that like a yogurt? And the chili sounds great, too!

    1. I bet you’ll see it sometime soon. We’re just starting to see it in California… so it should be on the east coast in a few months ;p
Yes – I realised I hadn’t typed the word yogurt in my post (corrected! thanks for noticing), it is like yogurt. Cultured with all that great probiotic stuff =)

  2. I’ve never see the Better Bean Co before. I wish they had those around me. I need more beans in my life but get lazy about cooking them. If I could find them somewhat prepared, I’m sure I’d eat them more.

I just bought that yogurt this past weekend! I haven’t had the chance to try it yet. I’ll let you know when I do.

I’ve liked jack fruit the few times I tasted it as well though I have not yet prepared it either. My local health store has Uptons so I’ll see if they have the jack fruit variety.

I’m not as into Halloween as I usually am because I’ll be in Europe and I don’t think they celebrate it as much there as we do here. My mom and I are bringing gold masks to wear anyway to get into the spirit without being too creepy (if no one else is dressing up lol).

    1. I’m not sure how many places they are yet, they are still a newer company. When they do reach you, they will be found in the cold section at Whole Foods near the hummus.
The yogurt is good! I like it =) It doesn’t look very appetizing haha, but it tastes good, so that’s all that matters ;p
Ah bummer! Europe doesn’t really celebrate. I was slightly bummed last year as I was traveling as well. Although traveling in itself is fun =) Gold masks sounds cool! Have fun in Europe!! Can’t wait to hear all about it =)

  3. I kind-of want to try the uptown jackfruit, but then I remember how easy it is to make BBQ jackfruit from the can. But it is good because I know that if you don’t have an asian food market near you, jackfruit can be hard to find. So it definitely is giving more options to vegans.
