Happy 2017!

**I am still behind on blogging. I think I got burned out from MoFo back in November and I needed a break. I’ve had some time to relax and reset and am eager to get back at it! Thanks for your patience =)

Happy New Year! I hope you had some wonderful holidays and are looking forward to tackling this new year with excitement. I am not into resolutions… those used to be the days when I would make strict rules to quickly lose weight and swing between restrictive eating and binging and overexercising. Instead of setting resolutions, which were never healthy or lasted long for me, I prefer to set goals. Yearly goals, monthly, weekly and even daily ones. All sorts of goals, from some deep & meaningful ones to some tough ones that challenge me and of course, some fun ones. Let’s take a look at last year’s goals.

  • travel someplace new (Nevada??)
  • electronic decluttering (I’m actually getting a warning from GMail saying I’m using up too much space… yikes!)
  • spend more time learning Spanish (be able to speak at least basic phrases)
  • better meal planning to inevitably help with my grocery budget ;p
  • spend more time on art projects
  • read more non-fiction & classical books
  • continue to work on finding a healthy relationship with myself and learn to love my body just the way it is ♥

Lots of travelling went on last year! Though we didn’t make it to Nevada, we had some great adventures to Seattle, Washington and Victoria, BC. I also did some exploring in the state of California to Yosemite.

I had a great start with electronic decluttering… but by the end of the year I had every. single. one. of my techy devices telling me they were full. I can’t believe I can seriously declutter my entire apartment every 3-4 months, but let my electronics get so junkily full. I plan on making this a priority this year.

Lo siento, no hablo espanol. After being here 4 years, I guess it’s just not meant to be 😉

Again, the year started off really well for budgeting and meal planning… but my husband has let me know that this year was actually by far the most expensive grocery year we’ve had since moving here. This will be another goal that I make higher priority this year.

Spent more time crafting and on art things and enjoyed it.

I actually set a goal to read 30 books last year and made it to 34! My favourites were The Book Thief, Scrappy Little Nobody & 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I got a good mix of fiction, non & classical.

I will admit to needing more work on loving myself and being more gentle with myself, but 2016 was the year where I finally started feeling comfortable in my own skin again. I felt comfortable wearing a bathing suit for the first time in 4 years (!?) and I wore shorts without a second thought. This isn’t to say that the shape of my body has changed, but that I am finally starting to feel ok with how my body looks which is a pretty fantastic feeling.

Goals for 2017:

  • Electronic decluttering (for seriously this time haha)
  • Better budgeting, especially with groceries
  • Get a job (what what! someone FINALLY got a work permit!)
  • Read 37 books (more or less alternating between fiction, non & classical)
  • Travel someplace new (signed up for a half marathon in Nevada!)
  • Stretching! (5-15 minutes at least 3x a week, preferable more)
  • Continue to work on finding a healthy relationship with myself and learn to love my body just the way it is ♥

Other goals that aren’t in the big 6 include, working more with my pup. She is highly active which I’m easily able to keep up with, but I slack on exercising her mentally. I’d like to walk her an average of 2 miles a day and work on training her 1-2 times a week. She is so smart, she deserves to cultivate her talents.

Fitness goals. It’s not about losing weight, it’s about feeling great. I actually hit some goals unintentionally last year and I’d like to strive for more this year.  I ran 3 half marathons and few 5 & 10s and got a PR for a half, 5 & 10km races! I have already signed up for 2 half marathons and would like to sign up for two 5 & 10km races. I’d like to run an average of 10 miles a week and have no plans on breaking PRs – I’m happy with where I’m at. I had a few injuries this year, I would like to work on fewer this year. I would also like to try more new ways of enjoying fitness. Last year I tried some spin classes (which I dislike), an interval class (which became an easy favourite) and some others. I would like to try more yoga, core & pilates type classes.

Blogging goals. Take better pictures, of course. This is a work in progress, but I really feel like I’ve made HUGE improvements in 2016 and I really look forward to learning more and doing even better in 2017 (especially with a new light!). I’d also like to stay on top of reading blogs more and not stressing about having a perfect blog 😉

I will admit that at the end of a year, I will look forward to the next year, thinking how much better it will be than the last. Although there is nothing wrong with that, this year, I can’t help but think of how truly amazing 2016 was. I’m so grateful for all of the wonderful things that happened and all of the amazing people I have in my life. That being said, I am still excited about 2017 and I hope you are too.

  1. Happy new year! I know what you mean about vegan mofo – it was intense. You seem to be doing well with your goals – electronic decluttering is something I find hard but I keep expecting to hear I have reached the limit on my email and my blog and yet I just keep on until told but I do have lots to do. And I wish I could say I declutter my home as much – need a bit more of that too. Fantastic you have a work visa – good luck with job hunting and with all the goals – I hope you have a fun and healthy year ahead. And look forward to your continued blogging and HVFs, though take it easy and don’t burn out!

    1. Whew MoFo burned me right out. I can’t believe how long it’s been getting back in the swing of things.
Well, we are day 6 of the new year and I haven’t started yet. I’m thinking maybe if I pick 1 day a week and settle an on hour for that day, it will seem easier to get done.
Thanks Johanna! I’m grateful we have become such good blogging friends, even closer this past year <3

  2. Happy New Year Kimmy!

I totally understand you needing a break from blogging… Since getting back from CA, I’ve gem struggling to get back into it. It didn’t help that Christmas was around the corner and that I was given lots of extra responsibilities at work. Here’s to a new year and a new start!

You did so much in 2016! Congrats ob all your achievements and here’s to many more!

    1. Happy New Year Kate! Christmas really got me into a lazy way of things, which I’m not sure was an entirely bad thing after all. Thanks doll! I’m so happy I got a chance to meet you in person last year =) I hope to see you again sometime soon!
