For as long as I can remember, I’ve always said “Why can’t we go somewhere warm for Christmas? Can’t we go decorate a palm tree?”
I do not like winter. I sometimes wonder why I was born in Canada. I do not ski or skate, I despise shoveling and winter driving and the cold. And this year I get my wish. We made the decision this year to stay here instead of heading home for the holidays as it is just so darned pricy and Terry is pretty well out of vacation days. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t bummed about missing my family and friends (especially since a lot of the ones I have met here are heading somewhere!)… but it will be nice to spend a quiet holiday with the hubby and new dog Sunny.
Last year around this time, I was dealing with some serious family drama and I didn’t even enjoy the holidays much, it felt more like a chore. And earlier this fall, I was dealing with depression, so imagine my surprise when December rolls around and I immediately find an all Christmas music station (which Terry got sick of after about a week haha – it’s still on though!). I scoped out the library to check out my favourite flicks (Home Alone 1 & 2, Elf, Christmas with the Kranks, How the Grinch Stole Christmas & The Santa Claus). I got the decorations up (sadly our tree is back in Canada…) and I’ve been in baking mode. I’m cheery and loving it!
I snapped some pics of some houses I’ve seen around here:
I understand that the holidays can be a tough time for some. We may miss someone who we are no longer able to celebrate with (I really miss my dad this time of year), or we are not able to be with friends and family. BUT that doesn’t mean we can try and find ways to enjoy ourselves =)
I hope you all are having a wonderful month so far! I will see you all back here Monday with a fun recipe. Have a great weekend!
