Some of these pictures will be repeats of what you have seen over the past couple of weeks, but I wanted to do a roundup of all my super awesome eats while I was in Canada and give shout outs to a few amazing restaurants.
Starting with this first image. French fries. Oh evil temptress… how you seduce me. One of the things I had growing up was easy access to French Fry Trucks. Does anyone else know about Fry Trucks? I actually haven’t found them anywhere but in my cute, little Southwestern Ontario town. I know fries aren’t healthy or nutritious, but they are a fun sometimes food.
This next photo is of a curry stirfry and lemon, ginger tea from Lotus Tea House in Waterloo. My friends and I used to eat here a lot. The food and atmosphere are great. I even wrangled a job there when I went to college to help pay my tuition.
I had the opportunity to dine at Greens Organic Café twice while visiting my family. The food is SO GOOD. The first time I went there, I tried the special of tofu scramble. Hands down the BEST tofu scramble I have ever had. Oh man… I’ve been dreaming of this scramble ever since. It was topped with coconut bacon – I need to learn how to make it.
The second time I went there, I got the grilled cheeze & coconut bacon and it was pretty awesome too:
I split the side salad too:
The dressing was really creamy and delicious!
I also tried a bite of what my mom-in-law got:
It’s the Open Face Portabello & Sweet Onion and it was very tasty. I forgot to take pictures, but we also tried some of their desserts. I tried a coconut bar and it was amazing. It blew me away. I really wish there was a restaurant in NorCal like this place. I will for sure be heading back there every time I visit. Besides having great vegan food, they also can make almost anything gluten-free. The food is fresh, healthy and organic as much as possible. If you’re in the Sarnia, ON area, I highly recommend it.
Also on my trip was a lunch at Kindfood. I have done a review of them in the past and I’ll give another brief one since it is my favourite restaurant on the entire planet!!!!
They had recently revamped their menu, so I got to try a new(er) item – the California Burger:
It was exactly how a sandwich should be: ooey, gooey goodness filled with tempeh, lettuce, tomato, avocado & daiya. It was super messy, but that added to the fun of eating the melty, tasty sammich.
Terry tried the Happy Buddha Bowl:
It was nice that they were easily able to accommodate his special diet while still maintaining an incredibly delicious meal. It was comfort food in a bowl – sweet potatoes always bring me to my happy place =)
And no visit would be complete without dessert at Kelly’s Bake Shoppe:
We got CUPCAKES!!!
We did not eat all of these ourselves – we shared (I may have had 2…). We got them to go so I could try this:
It was chocolately awesomeness =)
So I got to try this the following day. Mmmm. It’s one of the things I miss most about Southwestern Ontario. I haven’t managed to find a vegan & gluten-free cupcake like a Kindfood one out here. My mission continues…
We also stocked up on some things that we aren’t able to find here:
And finally, I snapped some pictures of supper at fellow blogger and my in real life bestie Sarina of Earthgiven Kitchen. She extended us an invitation to dinner while we were up visiting and we gladly accepted. She made us this insanely delicious meal:
Not only did Sarina whip up tasty food, but it was also Terry-friendly. She made rice noodle stirfry and roasted potatoes. She always makes the best sauces for her dishes, she kindly gave me the recipe and I tried to re-make it, but I was missing her touch and it didn’t taste quite as good. BUT she did let me know she would be posting the recipe on her blog at some point in the near future. Stay tuned and I’ll link up to it when she does.
And check out dessert:
I still can’t figure out how to make half decent vegan & gluten-free baked cookies. Ah well, I suppose I wouldn’t appreciate others attempts if I did ;p
This yummy ice cream is super easy to make and is free of refined sugars. You can find the recipe here.
I’m so glad I got a chance to see her, it was one of the highlights of my trip =)
Happy Wednesday. See ‘ya’all Friday!
